What should I read to learn about futbol?

All the hype around David Beckham coming to America has sparked my interest in the game, but I’m so confused about clubs, teams, FIFA, and everything else. The only thing I do know is that getting the ball in the other team’s net is good, and "Footballer’s Wives" is a terribly awesome show that teaches you nothing!
All of these answers helped me a great deal.

beckham is a tosser! if you want to learn you should just talk to people that know about it.

Club teams are the team that a player plays for in a certain league. Like Chelsea FC(football club) in england. They are in the English Premier League(EPL). Or the LA Galaxy in the MLS. The club teams have their own league that they play in for the majority of the year against other teams in their leauge.

They also have tournaments where different leagues play against each other. The best one is UEFA Champions League. UEFA is united european football association. In these tournaments a team from spain can play a team from england, or italian team vs a french team etc.

National teams are completely different. National teams are the country itself. And they have nothing to do with club football. The National teams are when brazil play italy. country vs country Like in the world cup, copa america, olympics. The players must be a citizen of the country they play for. In club football anyone can play anywhere.

FIFA is the world governing body of soccer. Each league/country has it’s own association. FIFA is the whole words association.

Footballer’s wives and Dream Team are good shows but teach nothing about football. But if you are watching that you must have FSC or something. Watch the news shows and the updates and stuff. You can learn from those.
