World Cup 2010 Is Done, Euro 2012 Is Next

As Spain were crowned World Cup winners in Joburg, the curtain fell on the first World Cup Tournament to be staged in Africa. European sides fulfilled a 1-2-3 with Spain beating Holland in the World Cup final as well as Germany taking 3rd place after a 3-2 victory over Uruguay.

This mostly reinforces the argument that European football is the most powerful globally and that the European Championships are a superb tournament. Qualifiers for the Euro 2012 finals starts out in September and although finishing third, Germany will definitely be among the favourites to lift the trophy. Their more youthful team provided some vivid football throughout the World Cup Tournament with Thomas Muller winning lifting the Golden Boot with five goals and three assists. Together with various young stars like Ozil, Boateng and Kediera, Germany will be undoubtedly one of the teams to beat.

As present World and European champions, Spain is certainly a tough opposing team. Most of their squad will still be young enough in 2012 to present strong opposition and they will certainly be willing to defend their title. At last Holland were able to abandon their personal egos at home at the World Cup tournament and consequently, they made it to their 3rd World Cup final beating lots of peoples favourite, Brazil, along the way. With more clinical finishing from Robben, Holland could well have won the tournament as opposed to Spain and they will hope to keep going in the same vein in the course of Euro 2012.

The traditionally powerful nations of France, England and Italy all failed miserably in South Africa and for that reason, the curtain will most certainly come down on various of the older players careers. England have quite a few fantastic young footballers to bring to the international stage and if they can emulate Germany, there will be increased hopes among the English fans.

The Euro 2012 host nations of Poland and Ukraine will both see tremendous support but in due course, they most probably do not have the quality to seriously challenge for the title.
